Pretty In Pink: Valentines Day

We’re surrounded by all things chocolate and heart-shaped, Cupid’s back and love is most definitely in the air! This holiday always has red and pink at its centre but this season pink seems to be a winner. It symbolises love it’s much softer than the passion that red brings to mind. Even if you hate this holiday it’s hard to stay away from the rosy shades. So here are a few of my pink favourites to help you look pretty in pink for Valentines, whether thats with your other half or a night on the town with your best friends. IMG_0019 From bold to barely-there, these lip colours will cover whatever look you want. Looking for a sheer, stays-on-all-day shade? Autograph’s Very Pink lip colour from M&S is a comfortable pick. Create a natural, luminous flush with a glide of No 7’s Sheer Temptation lipstick in (40) Lovely. This is one of my repeat buys, it can give you so many different looks, and it glides on for the perfect kissable lips. Looking to go bold then the Clinique Chubby Stick in Plushest Punch is defiantly up your alley, although you can create a number of looks with this product. The form will stain your lips when applied in thin layers; blot in between swipes!. Finally my current favourite is the MAC Cream Sheen in How Darling! it is the lightest pink tone, delicate and perfect. IMG_0003 IMG_0004 IMG_0010

Natural flushed cheeks the Benefit Poise Tint can help with that feeling of the’ first look of love’ MAC beauty Powder in the colour ‘Formal’ is beautifully smooth and is very pigmented. The colour on my cheeks is a warm, it’s a very versatile colour, so use it for fun and flirty beautiful blushing cheeks.

IMG_0012 IMG_0014If you don’t want pink on your face, why not your nails? ‘Love’ from 17 is bright making a clear statement, but if you want something a little more subtle and natural then I would recommend ‘Glacier’ from Mavala.IMG_0011

I hope you all look beautiful and Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.

Manicure 7| Golden Goddess & Blush

Another post in the series of manicures. This manicure started off as a themed nail polish for a birthday party. It was meant to be for a disney princess fancy dress birthday party (I was going as the princess and the frog), but due to some of the group being ill we ended up just going out in normal clothes.

Manicure 72

So today’s nail polishes show off a new purchase from the e.l.f sale, these colours were from the nail polish set ‘Glam Bam’. I used Blush for the base and Golden Goddess over the top for a bit of sparkle.

Manicure 71

The Golden Goddess is not over the top, its covers the nail in hints of golden sparkle with larger golden specks all over, which gives it a magical effect.

They’ve lasted rather well also, no chips or dents and that was with no application of the base or top coat, very impressed.

Manicure 73

I really like the overall effect and would definitely use these colours again, you could also get away with this for an everyday nail too, not just going out glam.

What do you think of the e.l.f nail polishes?

Manicure 6| Perle de Jade

Today’s manicure features the l’Oreal Paris Color Riche Nail Polish in shade 602, Perle de Jade.

IMG_0006

Its a bright pastel green, which is more suitable for the summer and springs months but in this dark weather its the perfect pick me up.

IMG_0004

The thing I love most about this nail polish is the brush (which I’ve forgotten to take a picture of) its shaped differently to your normal brush. Instead of being a straight edge, square shape, the bottom edge is slightly curved and pointed which is so much better for a smooth application in the corners of your nails.

The texture is quite watery on the first layer of application but sorts itself out by the second coats and only needs this two coats for a perfect application and look. Bright and colourful its a great shade.

Have you got any of the Color Riche shades, what’s your favourite?

Manicure 4: Rimmel Black Cherries

Today’s manicure is with Rimmel’s Lasting Finish in no. 193 Black Cherries.

The beautiful deep purple colour has a slight shimmer to it, something you probably can’t see in the images.

The texture is rather thick but not like the Barry M polishes. So therefore you have to be careful when applying so it doesn’t become streaky.

The colour comes out quite dark it almost looks black. Quite a nice shade for winter.

Manicure 3| Grape Ice

Today’s nail polish is Clinique’s A Different Nail Enamel in no. 20 GRAPE ICE.

This is a lovely pinky purple colour perfect for summer.

This polish has been made for people with sensitive skins and I haven’t reacted to the polish and I’ve found it doesn’t have that strong nail polish smell like other brands which is nice for the nose ha ha.

It has a good consistency I have only needed to apply one coat to get the full coverage I needed.

I like the floral packaging and simplicity of the nail polish bottle nice and simple.

I will update this when I have wore the colour longer to see how long it lasts.

Have any of you tried out this Nail Polish? What do you think? What colour do you own?

First Impressions| Mavala Mini Trio (Nude)

I’m very much into natural colours and make-up looks atm. So I’ve been looking and buying many products associated with this. As many of my followers know I usually do a post on my Manicure of the week on a Monday, but with my busy work schedule over the bank holiday I wasn’t able to. Plus I was waiting for the products to arrive so I could do a post for you.

Mavala say they are a world leader in nail care created in 1958 by MAdelaine VAn LAndeghem. A Swiss beauty brand that specialise in the maintenance of beautiful looking nails and offer a complete range of products to alleviate all nail concerns, from uneven nail surfaces, splitting and flaking due to lack of hydration or nail discolouration, and offer a vast array of over 150 nail colours in shades ranging from chic yet understated, nudes to the bold and vibrant.

Mini Box Set

I opted for the Mini Trio Box set that came in the colours:

Vanilla – smooth ivory with a pearl finish
Glacier – a rose pink with a creme finish
Moon Grey – a soft shimmering grey

All 5ml and cost £9.50 – so £3 for each one basically.

GlacierVanillaMoon Grey

I like the packaging, they say that they’re a nail cream – which I don’t understand what that means, because the texture isn’t creamy but quite watery, especially on the first coat. The second coat goes on more creamier than the initial coat. The grey colour seems to have coped quite well with only 2 coats and looks like it needs no other – as the instruction read (2 coats) but the other 2 are rather light and I can still see the white tips of my own nail through the varnish – further coats are definitely needed. But I will put a third coat for all my swatches of these colours so you can see them fairly, against one another.

Swatches

But considering the texture of the ‘nail cream’ is rather watery they dry extremely fast, so it’s not long before you can put another coat on. So far I’m really enjoying the colours they remind me of a neutral primary colours or even red, white and blue. They have a great shine to them even without a top coat. Out of all the colours I surprisingly LOVE the yellow, Vanilla colour – but they are all great colours and a great pick-me-up in this awful grey weather that we’re having.

So far impressions are good. I will do another Manicure/Review post for you with just one of the Mavala nail creams (I think the Vanilla) and see how well the colour holds up. So far though, so good.

Manicure #2| Bright Purple & Amethyst Glitter

This weeks manicure post will be featuring Barry M’s cult product. Their nail polish! I know one of my friends has basically every colour they have ever come out with. I don’t have that many but the two I’ve used for this post are: Bright Purple (303) and Amethyst Glitter (354). I’ve had the glitter polish for a while, I saw it in my local drugstore and had to buy it, but haven’t had a chance to wear it yet. And now that I have 2 days off before I go back to work I thought why not?

First Impressions: Color Show

I purchased the Maybelline New York Color Show nail polish and I’ve swatched the 4 colours I myself brought. Latte (254); Moss (652); Brick Shimmer (465) and Candy Apple (15). They were £2.99 in Boots which was quite reasonable. The 40 new nail shades from Maybelline are meant to “take looks straight from the catwalk to the sidewalk”.

With all the colours you do need 2 coats, however I did find with Brick Shimmer that one coat was enough. I love the brush! It’s small and perfect for application because it makes it so easy to apply a nice even coat and it went on beautifully. One coat dries fast. Top it off with a top coat and you are good to go!

I’ve read other reviews from buyers of the product and they said they found the bottle too small, I never end up using the whole pot anyways, I’ve still got nail varnishes from years ago (which I should probably throw away). I’d rather be able to buy a bunch of different colours than be stuck with the same old expensive shade all year long.

I would say if your buying them to go in store and get them. The colour wheel on the UK website gives the impressions of slightly different colours. For example the Candy Red, although in reality is a very bright red on the site it looks almost burgundy – I’ll link site here for you to see for yourself click here.

My first impressions are good, I love the colours, they are beautifully toned and go on easily with a smooth application. What do you guys think ? ?
